Special Fountains:
This fountain has a rechargeable SLA-battery inside the lower bowl. The water bowl sits on top of this battery bowl. The cable from the pump runs down to the battery bowl by way of a ceramic duct. This fountain can also be plugged in using a power adapter; in this case, without the battery bowl.

What makes us better

Not all ceramic pet fountains are created equal.

We offer dinnerware safe ceramic pet fountains that are handcrafted in the USA. Ebi, an award winning artist and the designer of the EBI fountain, worked as an electrical engineer in one of Germanys largest pharmaceutical and chemical companies for 25 years. His design is based on scientific and medically recognized principles and materials that support the health of your pet. Hundreds of experienced cat lovers have purchased an EBI fountain because the other brands just weren't as good.

What makes EBI fountains better?

1. Ceramic pet fountains that have holes for cords or tubes can leak after a few months. Dishwashers and cleaning methods can often cause the materials used to seal the hole, such as silicon or glues, to fail resulting in leaks. The bowls of ceramic EBI fountains do not have any holes and therefore cannot leak.

2. Pumps with grounded electrical cords (three prongs) plugged into an outlet with class A GFCIs (6mA) will only protect between line and ground but not between line and neutral. That's why your pet could still be harmed if he/she chews through such a cable. We use only safe low-voltage aquarium pumps. Since the low-voltage transformer plugs directly into your outlet, only about the power of 2 to 4 AA or D-cells is going along the power cord to your pump (so much too low of a voltage to hurt kitty even if he/she chews through the cord). And these pumps, unlike the "powerful pumps" competitors tout, will not heat up the water in your fountain.

3. The only effective charcoal filter is an inline filter. Charcoal filters that simply sit inside a water container are worthless and ineffective. We use inline charcoal filters with up to 10 times the amount of charcoal that competitor's filters contain.

4. Copper pipes may leak copper into water. EPA regulates copper in drinking water to protect public health. Copper may cause health problems if present in public or private water supplies in amounts greater than the drinking water standard set by EPA. (See: US Environmental Protection Agency, Basic Information about Copper in Drinking Water.)
We use FDA compliant beverage grade tubing made in the USA.

5. Studies have documented that cats will drink much more water when the water level is near the top of the container. Cats don't like to put their head into a container that reduces their peripheral vision, which is a valuable evolutionary adaptation to protect a cat from predators while the cat is drinking. The EBI fountain is the only pet fountain that has a lid from which the cat can drink at a constant easily accessable level and a large water reservoir underneath. You can even connect an Ebi fountain to your bottled water dispenser (e.g. Crock, Primo, New Wave, etc.) to provide up to 7 gallons of pure drinking water (2 gallon capacity water dispenser plus up to 5 gallon drinking water bottle).   click for more info.

6. Our fountains can be made "mischievous pet safe" like no other fountain can. We offer designs to eliminate "pawing" water out onto the floor. We can "batten down" the lid and secure other components so that even the worst "fountain disassembler" has met his/her match.   click for more info.

7. Any of our fountains can be battery operated using a battery that our pump plugs into.   click for more info.

The bottom line is that our EBI pet drinking fountains are engineered for health, safety, durability and to be a beautiful addition to your home.

Benefits of our fountains

Our ceramic pet drinking fountains are custom-made items and NOT cheap industrial mass production. They are hand made by a ceramic artist and cat lover using a porcelain texture clay, certified NON-TOXIC and food/dinnerware safe glazes. We can provide Material Safety Data Sheets for both clay and glazes. They are lead free, guaranteed.

Advantages
Big Bowl:
The big bowl holds from 0.6 to 2.5 gallons of water - so can be sized for even several pets. Because of the "thermal mass" and the bowl's surface, the water always stays at a healthy room temperature.
The bowl is covered by a lid, keeping the stored water in the dark and hiding pump and filter.
The wide floor area relative to its height and its "floor-centered" weight keeps the fountain from being tipped over.

Filter:
Our fountains have two filters. The first filter is an easy to clean stainless steel mesh, catching hair, food, etc, preventing the pump from clogging. The second filter is a Drinkwell filter with a fine polyester pad and granulated carbon to catch the finer particles. The filter is well hidden in the bowl, easy to reach for you but not the pet - and simple to change.
We also offer the "Forever Filter". It's a reusable filter. When it's time to change the filter, simply empty and rinse the canister, add fresh activated carbon, and return it to the fountain.

Pump:
Our standard pump is a 55 GPH submersible aquarium pump w/transformer. This pump runs with 4 to 12VDC and is UL listed. The transformer converts the 110V to a low voltage system, which is safe for pets. You may also opt for a battery operated pump or a 92 GPH pump with 110V and ground wire for use with a GFCI outlet.
We tend to use smaller pumps because, besides moving the water, the energy the pump uses also heats the water.
If your pet fountain's filter is placed behind the pump, you have to press the water through the filter, requiring a more powerful pump. This uses more energy than placing the filter in the backflow as we do with our flat filter. Using a "big" pump and a small filter behind the pump heats up the water (it's a physical law and you can feel it if you put your hand at the nozzle of the pump when you fill up your bicycle tire), so you have to install a "chiller" to cool it back down to room temperature. That's why we avoid using "big" pumps and small "inline" filters.

Spout:
We offer different types of spouts; bubblers like a little house or ball, free falling like the tower or stream (short fall) like the frog, lizard or flower. Our waterspouts are eye catching items, transforming your fountain into a piece of functional art.

Color:
You can choose the color of an existing fountain or choose from over 40 different glazes and combinations of these. All of our glazes are certified non-toxic and lead free. If you send us a sample of your wall paper or color scheme, we will match your colors.

Each of our fountains is lovingly hand built, then fired in an electric kiln to 2200°F; a vitreous high-fired pottery. The result is Stoneware, waterproof even without glaze. This ceramic is sturdier than earthenware. The coloration is a result of multiple layers of dinnerware-safe / food-safe glaze.
Why do animals love running water? In nature, moving water is much fresher than stagnant water. The movement constantly breaks the surface tension of the water and draws oxygen from the air into the water. This process is called aeration and it makes water more appealing to drink. Pets may be drawn by instinct to moving water for this reason.

Our Pet Water Fountains are a great way to show your cats and dogs just how much you care. Research shows that one of the best ways to improve your pet's health is to get them to drink more water. And the best way to do that is with one of our Ceramic Pet Fountains. By using a falling stream of water, our Pet Fountains continually aerate your pet's water with healthful oxygen.

That's just one of the many reasons why our pet fountains are more than works of art, even though, of course, they are also useable as decorative, environment-enhancing table top fountains.

Our ceramic pet fountains filters and aerates continuously moving water to keep it much fresher than standing bowl water. The falling action aerates the water and the movement is attractive to a dog's or cat's instinctive search for fresh water. It satisfies the urge for running water.

Our ceramic pet fountains have two filters, a pre-filter (stainless steel mesh) to catch bigger particles before they reach the inner fine filter, the reservoir and the submersible pump, and a 2-way or 3-way replacement filter to remove fine particles, bad tastes and odors, giving your pet the best possible - and most appealing - way to stay hydrated.

The charcoal filter we use are Standard Replacement Filter for Drinkwell Pet Fountains. They are a quick-change filter used to capture debris and filter water, keeping it clean and fresh for your pet. According to the manufacturer they should be changed every two to four weeks depending on the size and number of pets using the fountain.

Unlike plastic pet fountains that develop cracks, this drinking fountain is made from durable, nonporous dinnerware-safe glazed stoneware that mitigates bacteria growth. Ceramic resists bacteria, commonly found on porous plastic surfaces. The ceramic drinking fountain enables simple, thorough cleaning.

Each fountain comes equipped with a low-voltage pump and Drinkwell 360 filter housing & cartridge at no extra cost.

We create them in 5 different sizes, depending on the number and height of your pets:

Small:
The bowls of these fountains are approx. 5" to 6" high, up to 9" diameter, a drinking height of 4" to 6" and they hold approx. 0.5 or more gallon of water.

Medium:
These fountains are approx. 5" to 7" high, up to 10" diameter, a drinking height of 5" to 7" and they hold approx. 1.0 gallon of water.

Large:

M.A.M, OR:
As I suspected, your pet fountain is a work of art. What I like best about it is how quiet it runs and how heavy and safe it is. Most custom fountains have resin on them which can be toxic to kitties over time. I also love that the filter is well hidden and unless my kitties start taking steroids, there is no way they can get to the filter! On the Drinkwells, I finally just gave up tossed the filters and the lids because I was finding both of those items in the strangest places (even the litter pan)! Beautiful wonderful work and it came here perfectly intact.
Weeks later: I still love, love love your pet fountain. Oh well- at any rate I am sharing this exciting bit of news with people who I believe will care-

K.A., GA:
Cats prefer drinking water from a fountain, so I purchased a Drinkwell fountain in 2000. The cats loved it and so did I. I have purchased several fountains over the years.
Unfortunately, my cats developed plastic allergy symptoms -- licking or chewing all of their hair from their abdomen and inside both legs. Watching them constantly licking and chewing upset me because I knew how uncomfortable they must feel. I thought, “Someone must build a fountain using food grade plastic.”
Then I found your website. I know that ceramic is non-toxic. I received my fountain about a month ago. In that time my sweet Russian Blue cat, Sugar, has stopped chewing and licking. I looked at her belly today and the fur is growing back!!! It is about 1/8” long and I can’t see her skin anymore because the fur is covering it.
I am so happy that I found your website. Sugar and I say, “Thank you”.
